The National Center for Nonprofit Boards
(NCNB) has identified five basic
assumptions with respect to boards
of directors:
- There is no generic model of board size,
composition or organization that works for all circumstance.
- Board and board members roles, duties, and
responsibilities are fundamentally the same for all organizations
- How boards and board members actually fulfill
their responsibilities will vary
- All organizations will undergo one or more
metamorphoses over time
- Boards and board members begin to reach their
optimum levels of performance when they exercise their responsibilities
via asking good questions

Format
Any of these areas can be the subject of
a workshop/training. There can be:
- all day or half day sessions
- general training or organizationally focused
problem solving
- geared for staff, or board members, or both
- any combination of the above

be geared to adult learners with an emphasis on participation,
